Golden Jubilee of Statehood: Sikkim Kalakar Bharosa Sammelan’s 50th Year Celebrations in Namchi Beckon A Historic Milestone
Sikkim’s Vibrant Cultural Heritage Celebrated at Kalakar Bharosa Sammelan 2.0
The Sikkim Kalakar Bharosa Sammelan 2.0, a two-day event celebrating the state’s rich artistic and cultural heritage, kicked off at the Town Hall in Namchi on March 4. The event, marking 50 years of Sikkim’s statehood, is organized by Voice NGO Namchi and supported by the SKM Cultural Wing, under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.
The inaugural ceremony saw Health and Culture Minister GT Dhungel serve as the chief guest, accompanied by Krishna Rai, Chief Advisor and former MLA, as the guest of honor. The event brought together several dignitaries, including Deputy Speaker Raj Kumari Thapa, MLAs, and senior officials, artists, and cultural enthusiasts. In his address, Minister Dhungel expressed gratitude to CM Tamang for providing a platform to promote local talent and emphasized the significance of cultural tourism and exchange programs in preserving traditions and fostering community pride. He encouraged young artists to explore opportunities beyond government jobs and contribute to Sikkim’s cultural growth.
The event featured a 10-minute presentation by eight artists from various creative fields, sharing their experiences and challenges. These showcased the diversity of Sikkim’s cultural landscape, with artists like Dibya Jyoti Baraily (Music), Diwakar Lamichaney (Sketch Art), and Abhishek Chettri (Filmmaking). Renowned filmmaker Ugyen Chopel also recounted his journey in the Indian film industry, recalling his experiences working with Bollywood actors.
A panel discussion, moderated by Sanjay Rai, featured experts from various fields, including Prasand Rasaily, a director and scriptwriter, and Dr. Manoj Rai, a senior musician, who highlighted the scope of cultural tourism and its benefits. Bhawani Ghimirey, OSD of the Culture Department, discussed the department’s role in promoting local talent. The event also saw the release of a documentary film poster on Vatsalya Yojana, directed by Laxman Darjee.
To round off the festivities, guest artists from Nepal presented vibrant cultural performances, including the Nritya Shreya dance group. With its rich cultural heritage on full display, Sikkim Kalakar Bharosa Sammelan 2.0 has set the tone for a celebration that will continue to reverberate throughout the state.
