"Shah’s Decisive Stance on National Security: Congress Reacts to Landmark Meeting Deliberations"
Congress Welcomes Decisions on Manipur, But Demands Transparency on PM’s Abandonment of the State
In a significant move, Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a security review meeting for Manipur, focusing on restoring normalcy and surrendering illegal arms held by various groups. The meeting, which took place after the imposition of President’s rule in the state following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, aimed to tackle the ongoing violence and restore peaceful conditions.
Congress Leader’s Concerns
Manipur Congress President Keisham Meghachandra Singh has welcomed the decisions made during the meeting, particularly the directive to ensure the free movement of people on all roads from March 8. However, he expressed concern over the delayed implementation of these measures, questioning why these decisions were not taken earlier when the BJP was in power. "The meeting chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi and the outcomes of the meeting are a welcome step. The free movement should be open from 8th March. There is no doubt that it is a very welcome step. But why was this decision not taken earlier when there was a BJP government?" he asked.
PM’s Abandonment of Manipur
Congress leader Supriya Shrinate took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of abandoning Manipur and prioritizing international travel over addressing the state’s crisis. "Manipur has been abandoned by the Modi government, especially by Prime Minister Modi. It has been more than one and a half years. Manipur is burning. Violence continues even today. The fire of hatred and animosity still spreads. Even today, more than sixty thousand children and women are forced to live in relief camps. Billions of rupees worth of property have been destroyed. People are armed," she said.
Shrinate highlighted the recent travels of PM Modi to other countries, questioning why he has not visited Manipur to address the crisis. "The Prime Minister of this country has time for jungle safaris. He has time to visit the US, UK, Greece, and South Africa. But he does not want to go to Manipur. Does he not want to go to Manipur?"
Key Decisions and Next Steps
The meeting, which was attended by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, top officials of the Manipur government, Army, and paramilitary forces, resulted in key decisions, including:
- Ensuring free movement of people on all roads in Manipur from March 8
- Implementing border fencing, a long-standing demand of the people
The Congress party has vowed to continue to hold the government accountable for its actions and demands transparency on the Prime Minister’s absence from the state.
