MoUs Signed in Advantage Assam 2.0: Implementation to be Monitored through Online Portal
Guwahati, February 28: The Assam government has signed 329 MoUs (Memorandums of Understanding) during the recently concluded Advantage Assam 2.0 business summit, with plans to implement them accelerate the state’s economic growth. Industries and Commerce Minister Bimal Borah has assured that the department will closely monitor the implementation of these MoUs, ensuring their timely execution.
According to the minister, 289 MoUs have financial involvement, while the remaining 40 are non-financial agreements focused on knowledge sharing. Borah expressed confidence that if all the MoUs are successfully implemented, Assam will undergo a significant transformation in the coming days.
To achieve this goal, a special investment cell has been established within the Industries and Commerce department. This cell will coordinate with other relevant departments, such as the pollution control board, to ensure a smooth implementation process. Furthermore, investors who invest more than Rs 100 crore and generate employment for at least 200 individuals will be eligible for a special customized industrial policy introduced by the state government.
Will There be Adequate Land?
When asked about the availability of land to implement all the signed MoUs, Minister Bora pointed out that identified government lands exist in Morigaon, Nagaon, Goalpara, and Kamrup districts. Additionally, he highlighted that upon the completion of the Narangi-Kurua bridge over the Brahmaputra River, more land will become available for industrial use. Specifically, plans are underway to utilize plots on the Kurua side for setting up industries. Solar power projects, requiring substantial land, can also be implemented on top of water bodies.
Tackling the Issue of Forceful Donations
Bora acknowledged that forceful donations by various organizations pose a significant challenge for industries in Assam. He emphasized that this is a concern that has been raised by many industrialists in private discussions. While acknowledging that the police alone cannot solve the problem, the minister emphasized the need for a change in mindset.
Empowering the Youth
To address this issue, Bora suggested sending youths from Assam to advanced and industrialized states for training and exposure. This, he believes, can help change the mindset of Assam’s youth, enabling them to see what industries in other states are doing. By taking a proactive approach, Assam can harness the potential of its youth to drive growth and development.
