Heartfelt Gratitude: Omar Lauds Empowering Campaign against Obesity Initiated by PM Modi in J&K
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed his appreciation for being part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative against obesity. Announcing his involvement on social media platform X, Abdullah emphasized the significance of this campaign, noting that obesity leads to several lifestyle-related health problems including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, strokes, and mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.
The anti-obesity campaign was highlighted by PM Modi during his “Mann Ki Baat” radio show, where he described obesity as the root cause of many diseases. To amplify this initiative, he has selected ten prominent figures across the country, including Omar Abdullah, to promote the cause. PM Modi used platform X to nominate these individuals and encouraged them to further engage others in the campaign, specifically to raise awareness about reducing edible oil consumption.
In his post, the Prime Minister urged the nominated individuals, which include notable personalities like Anand Mahindra, Nirahua Hindustani, Olympic athletes Manu Bhaker and Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, actor Mohanlal, businessman Nandan Nilekani, actor Ranganathan Madhavan, singer Shreya Ghoshal, and author Sudha Murty, to each nominate ten more people to help expand the movement. By creating a chain of nominations, PM Modi aims to intensify efforts to combat obesity on a national scale, making the campaign a widespread public health drive.
