Breakthrough 100-Day TB Campaign Uncovers Over 5 Lakh Cases, Touching 10 Crore Lives – A Transformative Milestone in Health
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s ambitious 100-day tuberculosis (TB) elimination campaign has successfully identified over five lakh TB patients nationwide. Supportive of this initiative, 455 districts participated, uncovering more than 3.57 lakh TB cases. This achievement follows the screening of over 10 crore vulnerable individuals, thanks to enhanced case detection methods aimed at reducing diagnostic delays and pinpointing drug-resistant cases early, thereby improving treatment outcomes.
Fundamental to this drive, the campaign established 10 lakh Ni-kshay Shivirs, which strategically positioned modern TB diagnostic tools closer to home. Additionally, 836 Ni-kshay Vahans were deployed, extending TB services to the remotest corners of the country. These efforts coincide with the enrollment of over 240,000 Ni-kshay Mitras through Ni-kshay Shapaths, fostering community involvement and support for TB patients through nutritional baskets and psychosocial and vocational support. Consequently, 230,000 food baskets have been distributed, offering crucial sustenance and assistance.
A significant component of the campaign involved utilizing chest X-rays as a screening tool, targeting populations at higher risk of developing TB. More than 38 lakh individuals underwent screening, inclusive of those lacking the typical symptoms of TB, ensuring early detection and intervention potential.
This initiative underscores a robust governmental push towards the eradication of TB, combining innovative strategies and community engagement to address this public health challenge. The proactive steps taken in diagnosis, community support, and widespread screening represent a significant advancement in the fight against TB, bringing India closer to its goal of eliminating the disease. In doing so, the campaign serves as a model for coordinated national efforts towards addressing endemic health issues.
