Transforming Lives: Mizoram Govt Unveils Revolutionary Healthcare Scheme with Unmatched ₹5 Lakh Coverage!
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced on Friday the forthcoming introduction of a new healthcare scheme offering up to Rs 5 lakh in health insurance coverage per beneficiary. Set to launch in the upcoming financial year, this initiative aims to provide comprehensive health coverage without relying on external loans. Initially pursued under the previous Mizo National Front (MNF) government, attempts to secure a Rs 1,000 crore loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) were unsuccessful, prompting the current government to develop an alternative plan.
The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government is engaging with pensioners, government employees, and private hospitals to ensure successful implementation. Unlike the Mizoram State Health Care Scheme (MSHCS), which ends in March and offers up to Rs 2 lakh coverage, the new scheme promises more significant benefits and cashless treatment. It will complement the central government’s Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), which also provides up to Rs 5 lakh in annual coverage.
The registration for this ambitious program will initially open for three months, close for one, and then reopen for another month with a late fee to prevent last-minute registrations that could strain government resources. This structured registration process aims to mitigate financial losses incurred when people enroll only after hospitalization. An agreement with private hospitals is anticipated soon, facilitating seamless healthcare delivery under the new scheme.
