GUWAHATI: GMC Enforces Steep Fines for Civic Violations
On February 20, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) took decisive action, imposing fines totaling ₹1.3 lakh in a single day on residents and businesses found violating civic regulations. This move underscores the GMC’s commitment to maintaining urban cleanliness and order amid rapid city growth.
A resident from Paltan Bazar faced a hefty fine of ₹80,000 for improperly disposing of garbage on public roads. In another significant case, a prominent shopping mall on G.S. Road was fined ₹50,000 for operating without a valid trade license. These penalties serve as a stern reminder that violations of civic norms will face serious consequences.
The GMC has consistently urged Guwahati residents to act responsibly regarding waste management, emphasizing that cleanliness is a collective duty. A post from the corporation on X reiterated: "We are always ready to take such punitive action against any person or institution who ignores our calls and violates the rules."
