Anand Mahindra Confident in Mahindra Group’s Ability to Compete with Tesla in India
In a recent statement, Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, conveyed his confidence in the company’s preparedness to compete with Tesla if the latter enters the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market. This declaration comes amidst increasing speculation about Tesla’s imminent entry into India, spearheaded by Elon Musk.
Reflecting on past challenges, Mahindra cited the opening of India’s economy in 1991, when several global automobile giants like Daewoo, Ford, General Motors, and Hyundai entered the Indian market with advanced technologies and cutting-edge designs. Despite the formidable competition from these multinational corporations, Mahindra’s company successfully retained its stronghold in the industry. Mahindra recalled the initial skepticism faced by his company and remarked, “We have been asked similar questions ever since the opening up of the Indian economy in 1991. How will you compete against Tata, Maruti, and all MNCs? But we’re still around.”
Mahindra emphasized the importance of resilience and adaptability for long-term success. He reassured that the Mahindra Group is actively working to stay relevant in the rapidly evolving automotive landscape, with aspirations to remain significant even a century from now. “And working like maniacs to still be around & relevant even a century from now. With you cheering us on, we will make that happen,” Mahindra added, addressing supporters on social media platform X.
As the Indian EV market continues to expand, Mahindra’s statement underscores the group’s commitment to innovation and competitiveness, aiming to leverage its robust market position against upcoming challenges posed by potential entrants like Tesla.
