Unveiling Andretta: Discover Nagaland’s Hidden Gem in ‘A Path to Andretta’ | MorungExpress
Ceramicist Lipoklemla Ao, originally from Nagaland, is set to display her unique ceramic artworks at the India International Centre (IIC) in Delhi. Part of a group show titled “A Path to Andretta,” the exhibition opens on February 20 and celebrates the rich artistic heritage of Andretta, a picturesque village in Himachal Pradesh renowned for its vibrant creative community. This exhibition will present works by artists, potters, printmakers, and musicians from Andretta, a village that has fostered generations of artists, including esteemed figures like Padma Shri Sardar Gurcharan Singh.
Lipoklemla Ao discovered her passion for pottery nearly a decade ago at Delhi Blue Pottery and now operates her own studio, ‘Otsü,’ in Andretta. Known for her functional ceramics and avant-garde designs, her work reflects a balance of restraint and spontaneity. The studio is not only a creative haven for Lipok but also a sanctuary for aspiring artists, offering residency programs open to everyone, including international students.
Lipok’s journey highlights the challenges faced by artists in Nagaland, such as limited market access and infrastructural support, and she encourages young artists to seek opportunities beyond traditional boundaries. Her artistic approach features meticulously crafted pieces, each embodying the intersection of emotion and form.
The exhibition, running until March 7, is curated by Sarover Zaidi and Akanksha Maglani and will showcase the works of other prominent Andretta artists, including Mansimran Singh, Mary Singh, and more. Lipoklemla expressed her excitement about sharing her works, including teapots and women figurines, at the event, promising that not all surprises will be revealed immediately. This display not only underscores her personal artistic evolution but also celebrates the enduring artistic legacy of Andretta.
