Shocking Meth Seizure Near Mizoram-Myanmar Border: A Major Victory in the War on Drugs
In a coordinated operation, personnel from Zokhawthar police station in Champhai district, alongside Assam Rifles personnel, seized significant amounts of illicit drugs near the Mizoram-Myanmar border. The operation took place on Tuesday at Vaikai along the Tiau river, close to Zokhawthar village, and was reported by the police on Wednesday. Officials confiscated 7.100 kg of methamphetamine tablets and 3.100 kg of crystal meth, which were smuggled from Myanmar’s Chin state. The drugs, valued at approximately Rs 71.15 crore, were found in possession of 59-year-old Vanlalhruaia from Aizawl. The seized substances and the accused were handed over to Zokhawthar Police Station, where a criminal case was filed under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985. Following this, Vanlalhruaia was presented in a Champhai district court and placed in police custody for 72 hours for thorough investigation and questioning.
In a separate incident, police and Assam Rifles personnel seized about 50 grams of heroin in Zokhawthar village. However, the individual involved managed to flee to Myanmar. The confiscated heroin was subsequently turned over to the Zokhawthar police for further investigation.
These operations underscore the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb drug trafficking along the India-Myanmar border, highlighting the challenges posed by cross-border smuggling activities.
