Exciting Breakthrough: Maharashtra Cabinet Approves 346 New Posts in Anti-Narcotics Task Force to Combat Drug Menace
On Tuesday, the state cabinet approved the creation of 346 new positions within the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and the establishment of the Sixth State Finance Commission. This expansion of ANTF, sanctioned on August 31, 2023, aims to strengthen law enforcement efforts to combat the growing narcotics issue. The new positions include 310 permanent and 36 contractual roles, ranging from senior police officials to clerical staff and scientific assistants. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who chaired the cabinet meeting, emphasized that a bolstered task force would enable more effective control of narcotics use.
In a separate decision, the cabinet approved the formation of the Sixth State Finance Commission, tasked with providing recommendations for financial planning and resource distribution from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2031. The commission is required to submit its report by December 31, 2025. The chief minister has been authorized to propose the commission’s chairman and members to the governor. This commission will assess the financial health of local self-governments and suggest improvements for their economic management.
