Shocking Breakthrough: Cachar Police Arrest Five Suspects in Heinous Truck Driver Murder Case
Cachar SP Busts Inter-State Car Lifting and Murder Gang
In a significant breakthrough, the Cachar Police have dismantled an inter-state car lifter gang, arresting five individuals linked to the murder of truck driver Bidhan Dutta in Manipur’s Churachandpur district. The apprehended suspects include the main accused, Amal Paul, and his accomplices Baktiar Hussain Laskar, Sanjib Ahmed Laskar, Dilwar Hussain Laskar, and Saharul Islam Laskar. The gang allegedly killed Dutta on January 3 and stole his vehicle.
The incident came to light when a Guwahati-based trader, Ram Bahadur Gupta, lodged a complaint on January 8, stating that Dutta had gone missing with the truck while en route to Churachandpur. Despite attempts by the driver’s family, his whereabouts were initially unknown. Under the leadership of Additional SP (Crime) Cachar and the Officer-in-Charge of Silchar Sadar, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the case.
Through the investigation, it was revealed that the truck was concealed near the Assam-Mizoram Border. Upon interrogating the arrested gang members, it was discovered that Amal Paul and Saharul Islam Laskar had murdered Dutta near Lumshlnong, Meghalaya, due to a longstanding financial dispute. His body was dumped near a toll gate.
The investigation further uncovered that the stolen goods were sold to Aseb Hussain Barbhuiya for Rs 5,80,000. Consequently, Barbhuiya and another suspect, Tafijul Hussain Barbhuiya alias Ramij, were also apprehended. Authorities successfully recovered the stolen vehicle from Karkot Basti near the Assam-Mizoram Border, and further legal proceedings are in motion.
