Meghalaya’s Bold Vision: BJP’s Passionate Push for Life-Saving Shillong Hospital Upgrade to Union Minister Kiren Rijiju – Northeast News
Shillong: A delegation from the Meghalaya BJP, spearheaded by MLA Sanbor Shullai and state president Rikman Momin, recently met with Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, to advocate for the modernization of the Red Cross Hospital in Laban, Shillong. The proposal seeks to overhaul the deteriorating Assam-type structure, replacing it with a cutting-edge facility equipped with state-of-the-art amenities. This initiative aims to enhance healthcare services for the community.
MLA Sanbor Shullai, representing the South Shillong constituency, underscored the crucial need for this upgrade, particularly for the numerous Below Poverty Line (BPL) families who depend on the hospital for accessible healthcare. Shullai also shared his personal connection to the hospital, as it is his birthplace, and envisioned transforming it into a premier maternity hospital in Shillong.
During their meeting, Union Minister Rijiju responded positively, showing strong interest in the proposed project. The delegation has already submitted a detailed project report (DPR) to the Department of Minority Affairs, with the assurance that it will be reviewed after the forthcoming elections.
In the coming days, the BJP delegation plans to meet Meghalaya’s Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, to advocate for prioritizing this proposal and forwarding it to the Minority Affairs Department. Shullai reaffirmed his personal commitment to the completion of this project within his current tenure, highlighting the impact it would have on the local community.
Emphasizing efficient governance, Shullai concluded by expressing that the focus should be on tangible results, advocating for a ‘work more, talk less’ approach in political endeavors. This project represents a step towards improving health infrastructure, promising significant benefits for those in need of quality healthcare in the region.
