Unforgettable Night: Ed Sheeran Mesmerizes Shillong in Historic Debut Concert
British musician Ed Sheeran made a historic appearance in Shillong, Meghalaya, on February 12, marking his debut performance in the city. The event drew enormous crowds, making it the largest international concert in Shillong’s history. Fans eagerly lined up from JN Stadium to Polo to witness the global sensation live.
Sporting a custom “Shillong” t-shirt, Sheeran captivated the audience with his unique loop station techniques, performing each song live without any pre-recordings. The concert started with “Castle on the Hill” and included popular tracks like “Shivers,” “Perfect,” and “Photograph.” During the performance of “Perfect,” the enthusiastic crowd’s singing nearly drowned out Sheeran, leading him to commend them as his “loudest audience.”
The concert opened with an act by Kayan, who performed hits like “Cool Kids” and an acoustic rendition of “Iris.” As dusk set in, Sheeran took to the stage, marking his first visit to Northeast India. Touching on his song “The A Team,” Sheeran reflected on its longevity, expressing amazement at performing it in new locales 15 years after its creation.
The show concluded with an energetic encore featuring “You Need Me, I Don’t Need You,” “Shape of You,” and “Bad Habits,” with thousands in the crowd joining in. This performance is part of Sheeran’s ‘+ – = ÷ x’ Tour, which also included stops in Bengaluru and other cities, culminating in Delhi on February 15.
Organized by BookMyShow Live, the tour is a testament to the effort to enhance India’s international music scene, following previous acts like Coldplay and Justin Bieber, as well as major events like NBA games and Lollapalooza India.
