Heartwarming Rescue: Three Brave Girls Escaped Child Marriage in Assam’s Morigaon
In a notable rescue operation, Morigaon’s Child Helpline Unit, working alongside Mikirbheta Police Station and Boribozar Outpost police officials, successfully rescued three minor girls on Wednesday, February 12. The intervention was prompted by a crucial tip-off received via the 1098 helpline.
The distressing case involved two of the minors being married, while the third had escaped before her wedding could occur. Following their rescue, the girls have been temporarily housed in a Morigaon shelter, pending further directions from the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
An official from the Child Helpline Unit commented to GPlus, “Upon receiving the helpline tip-off, we acted swiftly with police support, rescuing three minor girls. While two were already married, one managed to flee before her marriage. An investigation is ongoing, and we await further guidance from the CWC, Morigaon.”
As investigations continue, more details are awaited regarding this sensitive issue.
