Tragic Murder-Suicide in Bamunimaidam: Heartbreaking Tale of a Family Torn Apart
On Wednesday, a tragic suspected murder-suicide rocked Bamunimaidam’s Railway Colony in Guwahati, as three bodies were discovered in railway quarter number 427. The deceased were identified as Julie Deka, her second husband Lohit Thakuria, and their daughter. Authorities reported that Julie and her daughter suffered fatal injuries from sharp weapons, while Lohit’s body was found hanging, indicating he may have taken his own life following the crime.
Police were alerted about the incident at around 2 p.m. and quickly responded. DCP Central Amitabh Basumatary confirmed that a CID team is now investigating the matter. Preliminary evidence suggests that Lohit sent a message to his cousin admitting to the killings before ending his life.
Julie worked in the railways’ mechanical department and her unexplained absence from work on Wednesday had raised concerns among her colleagues. A co-worker described her as a “jovial person,” expressing disbelief at the incident.
A notable background detail is that Julie had filed a complaint against Lohit under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act last year, resulting in his arrest. Despite this, the motive behind Wednesday’s tragedy remains unknown, and authorities are diligently working to piece together the full sequence of events that led to the unfortunate incident.
The case has deeply affected the local community as they await more answers from the ongoing investigation.
