Shocking Revelation: Delhi Meeting Exposed as Mere Eye-Wash, Declares CAP Sikkim
The Citizen Action Party (CAP) Sikkim has criticized the Sikkim government’s recent high-level committee meeting in New Delhi on February 10, labeling it as merely a facade. At a press conference in Gangtok, CAP Sikkim spokespersons Mahesh Rai and Albert Gurung asserted that the meeting was initially meant to address regional concerns involving the left-out communities of Sikkim and Darjeeling. However, they claimed that the meeting, supposedly chaired by Chief Minister PS Golay, was canceled and later conducted as a rushed attempt to feign progress.
According to CAP Sikkim, a previous statement by the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) was revised to exclude any mention of a high-level meeting in Delhi. Subsequently, Minister Raju Basnet announced on social media that no such meeting would occur, casting doubt on the sincerity of the discussions. The CAP Sikkim accused the government of misleading the public by hastily organizing a meeting, which ultimately became public knowledge, rendering it ineffective.
Furthermore, the CAP Sikkim questioned the productivity of the Sikkim State High-Level Committee (SSHLC), established on November 4, 2024, criticizing the delay in presenting a final report on the tribal status demand for 12 left-out communities.
The CAP Sikkim also censured the state government’s sudden decision to implement tenant registration and laborer verification, arguing it was a revenue-generating exercise causing unwarranted public inconvenience. They insisted that such measures should have been planned carefully to avoid harassment of locals and landlords.
Highlighting the necessity to curb the influx of migrants and safeguard Sikkim’s identity, the CAP Sikkim pressured the government to honor their 2019 manifesto pledge to introduce the Local Protection Act. They demanded the development of a comprehensive plan to manage migration into Sikkim and suggested refunding tenant registration fees to locals impacted by the hasty implementation.
