Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has called on the state’s residents, particularly students and youth, to actively participate in the government’s anti-drug initiative, ‘War Against Drugs,’ aimed at achieving a drug-free society. During his speech at the ‘Jagriti-2025’ Inter-College Quiz Competition held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan, Saha underlined the detrimental effects of drug abuse, especially on young people, and stressed the need for collective community involvement in this mission.

Saha highlighted the ongoing campaign, ‘Nesha Mukt Tripura’ (Drug-Free Tripura), pointing out that while the state police and other agencies are committed to this cause, the success of the initiative hinges on the enthusiastic participation of students, youth, women, and the entire public. In addition to the anti-drug drive, the chief minister spoke on the significance of quiz competitions in promoting awareness about road safety, noting the tragic loss of lives due to road accidents in both the state and the nation.

Emphasizing vigilance in tackling the escalating drug issue, Saha urged individuals to come forward and report drug peddlers, asserting that a strong society is foundational to the success and performance of its students. Reflecting on Tripura’s improvements, he recalled the tumultuous past when educational institutions faced severe disruptions. However, he acknowledged the present challenge posed by the drug threat, as opposed to past conflicts.

Furthermore, addressing road safety concerns, Saha cautioned against negligent behavior like improper helmet use and underscored specific precautions, such as avoiding speeding, refraining from driving under the influence, and abstaining from mobile phone usage while driving. Despite Tripura’s relatively lower accident rate compared to other states, the chief minister announced plans to establish trauma centers throughout the state to better manage road-related injuries.
