Despite its potential, many of its natural treasures remain undiscovered, limiting its appeal as a tourist destination. Among these hidden gems is the intriguing Nimok Pung, a saltwater well located on a hillock in Subang village, Tirap district. This natural marvel holds historical significance, having been a pivotal part of the region’s barter system in the past. Locals, such as zilla parishad member Wanphoon Lowang, recount its historical role in producing salt, which was essential for trade with communities within Arunachal Pradesh and eastern Assam.

Historically, salt from Nimok Pung was a valuable commodity, often exchanged for essentials like dal and oil, as described by Poiwang Kanglom, a 67-year-old resident. Despite its once central role in local trade, modern trade practices have overshadowed its significance, leaving the well largely forgotten. Only minimal promotional efforts have been made by figures such as state forest minister Wanki Lowang to acknowledge this site.

Residents express a strong desire for government intervention to enhance tourism infrastructure, believing it could lead to economic benefits and increased recognition of the region’s natural offering. Kamlong, a local advocate, emphasizes the potential economic boost if the area were properly promoted. The community eagerly awaits initiatives that could transform Arunachal Pradesh into a global tourist attraction by spotlighting its unique allure and forgotten cultural heritage.
