Transforming Dreams: Assam’s Passionate Appeal for India’s First Divyang University Sparks Hope
In a significant move to advocate for the empowerment of individuals with disabilities, the Assam government has formally requested the Government of India to establish the nation’s first Divyang University in the state. This proposal aims to enhance opportunities for individuals with disabilities by providing specialized education and skills development.
Pijush Hazarika, Assam’s Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, put forward this initiative during a meeting with Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Virendra Kumar, on February 8 in New Delhi. The meeting highlighted Assam’s commitment to advancing education and empowerment for Divyangjans, ensuring they have necessary resources for personal and professional growth.
Hazarika announced the proposal on social media, expressing gratitude for the meeting and emphasizing the crucial role a Divyang University would play under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Such an institution would not only focus on education but also on skill development, contributing significantly to national progress through the empowerment of individuals with disabilities.
Furthermore, Hazarika advocated for the establishment of hostels across Assam and the northeastern region under the Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyudaya Yojana (PM-AJAY). This request came during the inaugural session of the Central Advisory Committee for the PM-AJAY scheme, illustrating Assam’s dedication to fostering comprehensive development in the region.
The Union Minister, as reported by Hazarika, responded positively to these proposals, showing openness to future discussions and potential action. This initiative reflects Assam’s strategic approach to ensure inclusivity and support for Divyangjans, enabling them to thrive through education and specialized training.
The development of a Divyang University in Assam would be a pioneering step in the nation’s educational landscape, underscoring a broader commitment to social justice and empowerment.
