Empowering Tomorrow: IIT Guwahati and BRICS Youth Council Ignite Entrepreneurial Spirit in Assam – A Landmark Event
The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, in partnership with the BRICS Youth Council and under the guidance of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Global Counter-Terrorism Council, hosted the Entrepreneurship Pre-Consultation Event on Friday. The event, themed “Empowering Northeast India – Youth Innovations for Sustainable Growth and National Connectivity,” witnessed participation from over 500 individuals and 80 startups. It aimed to provide a platform for young entrepreneurs and researchers to showcase innovative ideas and promote collaboration in Northeast India.
The chief guest, Kausar Jamil Hilaly, Secretary of the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, emphasized the strategic position of Assam as a gateway to Southeast Asia and highlighted the opportunities for the region to become an entrepreneurial hub. Hilaly encouraged young entrepreneurs to pursue their ideas fearlessly, noting that the Assam government is committed to supporting startups through various initiatives.
A major attraction was a startup exhibition organized by the IIT Guwahati-BioNest incubator, which featured over 80 startups from the Northeast showcasing innovations in deep tech, healthcare, agritech, and renewable energy. Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, highlighted the importance of channeling the creativity and energy of India’s youth toward nation-building through entrepreneurship. He urged participants to seize opportunities for collaboration and lead the region’s entrepreneurial transformation.
Rear Admiral Dr. S Kulshrestha of GCTC India and Deba Kumar Mishra, DC Kamrup, echoed the sentiments of youth empowerment, stressing the importance of skill development and innovation for sustainable growth and regional progress. The event included a panel discussion on “Navigating the Funding Landscape: Strategies for Startup Success & Sustainable Growth,” featuring insights into the startup ecosystem and funding strategies.
Concluding with an idea challenge pitching session, the event served as a catalyst for empowering Northeast India’s aspiring entrepreneurs, aligning with India’s vision of an innovation-driven future.
