Spectacular Excitement Unfolds: 9th Asian Winter Games Ignite in China!
The ninth Asian Winter Games (AWG) 2025 will officially begin this evening in Harbin, China, promising to be a historic event with its largest-ever participation from Asian countries and regions. A total of 34 nations and regions will be represented in the opening ceremony parade, marking a significant milestone in the Games’ history. The event’s Deputy Secretary-General and chief spokesperson confirmed that all preparations for the ceremony, which is expected to last about 80 minutes, are complete.
In a significant stride for Indian winter sports, the Government of India has greenlit the participation of an 88-member Indian contingent in this year’s Games, comprising 59 athletes and 29 officials. Particularly notable is the Government’s provision of full financial support through the Assistance to National Sports Federations (ANSF) Scheme. This support will benefit athletes competing in various disciplines, including Alpine Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing, Figure Skating, and both Short and Long Track Speed Skating.
The Indian contingent’s involvement and the record-setting participation highlight the growing interest and investment in winter sports across the continent. As the Games get underway, the spotlight will be on the athletes and their performances, promising an exciting and competitive event that showcases the diversity and talent of Asia’s winter sports landscape.
