Tragic Turn: Indian National’s Heart-Wrenching Tale of Injury in BSF Firing During Desperate Border Crossing Attempt
In a recent incident near Border Outpost Putia in Sepahijala district, Tripura, a Border Security Force (BSF) sentry opened fire in self-defense, injuring an Indian national trying to illegally cross into India from Bangladesh. The BSF reported that two individuals, a male and a female, were spotted approaching the border fence from the Bangladesh side. Despite the sentry issuing multiple warnings, the duo attempted to breach the fence.
The situation escalated when the individuals engaged in a physical altercation with the BSF sentry, attempting to seize his Pump Action Gun (PAG). Following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), the sentry fired a single round, injuring the male suspect, while the female managed to flee into a nearby village.
The injured male was identified as Akhtar Jamal Roni, a resident of Village Putia in Sepahijala, Manipur. Roni confessed to crossing the border from Bangladesh without valid documentation. The BSF has since provided medical treatment and necessary assistance to him. The incident is currently under investigation.
This border skirmish highlights the challenges faced by security forces along the India-Bangladesh border, which stretches 856 kilometers through Tripura. The BSF continues to be vigilant in maintaining the integrity of the international boundary, ensuring that incursions are promptly addressed according to set protocols.
