Triumphant Victory: Meghalayan Paddler Makes History with Bronze Medal at 38th National Games
Pynshngaiñ Kurbah has etched his name in the history of Meghalaya by securing the state’s first-ever medal at the National Games. Competing in the Canoe Men Slalom event at the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand, Kurbah clinched a bronze medal, marking a significant milestone for the northeastern state.
Meghalaya’s Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, took to social media to commend Kurbah’s remarkable performance. He shared his pride for Kurbah’s accomplishment, which has placed Meghalaya on the National Games medal tally for the first time. “Our heart swells with pride as Pynshngaiñ Kurbah paddled his way to 3rd place in Canoe Men Slalom, winning Meghalaya’s first medal in the 38th #NationalGames, Uttarkhand. Congratulations, Pynshgaiñ! We are so proud of you!” CM Sangma expressed on Twitter.
This historic achievement comes at a crucial time as Meghalaya is actively seeking to expand its presence on the national sports stage. The state is currently pursuing hosting rights for the 2027 National Games, a bid that has garnered considerable support. Chief Minister Sangma recently met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and initial feedback has been encouraging. Additionally, discussions with the chairperson of the Indian Olympic Association are ongoing to further strengthen Meghalaya’s case for hosting the future games.
Kurbah’s success not only brings honor to Meghalaya but also highlights the state’s growing potential and ambition in the national sports arena. As the state eyes a significant role in hosting the 2027 National Games, Kurbah’s victory might well be a catalyst for further achievements in the region.
