Shocking Victory: 45 Acres of Illegal Poppy Cultivation Destroyed in Manipur’s Kangpokpi
In a concerted effort to curb illicit drug activities, authorities in Manipur executed a significant operation to eradicate poppy cultivation over 45 acres in Kangpokpi district, Chief Minister N Biren Singh confirmed. The operation was conducted on Friday in the Lhungjang village hill range, within the Saikul police station limits. The district police, supported by personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and overseen by an executive magistrate, led the charge.
During the operation, tensions escalated when a mob of approximately 80 people confronted the security team. The confrontation resulted in damage to four light vehicles, mainly the front windshields. To manage the situation, security forces deployed minimal force to control the mob, ensuring safety while continuing their mission. Reinforcements were subsequently called in, allowing the poppy eradication efforts to resume in the area.
Several FIRs have been filed to facilitate further legal action connected to the incident.
This operation highlights ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in tackling illegal drug cultivation and the strong community resistance that sometimes accompanies such actions. Despite the disruption, authorities remained resolute, reinstating their commitment to eliminate illicit drug-related activities in the region. The efforts underscore the government’s dedication to addressing and dismantling illegal operations that threaten public safety and the environment.
