Breaking News: Indian Security Forces’ Bold Crackdown – 16 Killed, 12 Arrested in Intense Gunfire Clash
Imphal: Indian security forces have ramped up counter-insurgency operations in Manipur, leading to the arrest of 12 insurgents from various underground groups amid reports of ongoing clashes along the Manipur-Myanmar border. These operations resulted in the capture of members from several outfits, including three KYKL, two PLA, two Prepak (Progressive), two KCP (People’s War Group), one UNLF (Koireng), one KCP (Miyamgee Fingang Lanmee), and one KCP (Taibangnganba). Officials reported the seizure of firearms, including three pistols, ammunition, cash, demand letters, and other incriminating materials.
The heightened operations coincide with skirmishes between Manipur-based insurgents and the Myanmar-aligned Kuki National Army (Burma) near border pillars 85, 86, and 87 in the Kamjong and Tengnoupal districts. These exchanges, which began on January 27, have reportedly claimed the lives of over 16 individuals, primarily KNA (B) members, with Manipur insurgents also suffering casualties. The conflict is centered on a battle for separate administrations in their respective territories.
The security forces have notably intensified their presence in areas such as BP-85 and BP-86, apprehending additional insurgents, including three from KYKL and one from UNLF-K. The ongoing hostilities have seen Manipur rebels recover 16 sophisticated weapons from KNA (B) casualties. The situation remains tense as intermittent gunfire continues, prompting increased vigilance and coordinated efforts by central and state forces to manage the conflict and restore stability in the region.
