Guwahati: Ashwani Kumar, a distinguished IAS officer from the 2010 Assam-Meghalaya cadre and an alumnus of IIT Madras, has been appointed as the Director of the Directorate of Information Technology, Electronics & Communication (DITEC) in Assam. With his background in Electrical Engineering, Kumar’s leadership is anticipated to significantly advance Assam’s digital landscape.
Under his guidance, crucial IT infrastructure projects such as the State Wide Area Network (SWAN), State Data Centre (SDC), and Common Services Centres (CSC) are expected to expand. Moreover, Kumar will spearhead efforts to boost IT investments by nurturing the development of IT parks and Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) clusters in the region.
Kumar’s responsibilities will include implementing Assam’s IT policy and enhancing cybersecurity measures while driving e-governance initiatives to improve interactions between citizens and the government via cutting-edge Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Additionally, Kumar aims to bolster the digital skills of the local workforce through tailored capacity-building and training programs, ensuring that Assam is well-prepared for the technological demands of the future. His appointment is timely, as it precedes the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment & Infrastructure Summit scheduled for February 25-26, 2025, in Guwahati—a crucial event poised to underscore Assam’s commitment to digital advancement and economic growth.
