Assam’s Unyielding Stand: Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Bold Pledge Against Bangladesh Infiltration
Assam is maintaining heightened alertness regarding infiltration attempts from Bangladesh, as stated by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday. While interacting with journalists during an event celebrating the fifth anniversary of the Bodo Peace Accord of 2020, Sarma emphasized the state’s vigilant stance amid reports of instability in Bangladesh. He mentioned concerns about the involvement of ISI and Bangladeshi militants trying to regroup.
Despite these concerns, Sarma assured that the peace in Assam remains undisturbed, with no local support for insurgency activities. He highlighted that even ULFA chief Paresh Baruah has expressed a desire for peace, indicating a shared commitment to stability in the state.
Addressing prospects of inviting industrial investment in the Bodoland Territorial Region, the Chief Minister underscored the sensitivity of tribal communities regarding land issues. He emphasized the necessity of gaining the confidence of tribal people before any land allocation for industries, ensuring development proceeds without undermining tribal interests.
Overall, Assam is taking a balanced approach by maintaining security vigilance while fostering development and ensuring harmony with tribal communities.
