Tragic Disaster in UP’s Baghpat: Heartbreaking Collapse at Religious Festival Leaves 5 Dead, Dozens Injured
At least five people have died, and over 40 are feared trapped after a catastrophic incident at the Nirvana Laddu Festival of Lord Adinath in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh. The tragedy unfolded on Tuesday morning when a wooden platform situated within the Manastambha complex in the crowded Baraut tehsil area collapsed unexpectedly.
The platform, overcrowded with festival-goers participating in a religious ceremony, plummeted around 75 feet, causing panic and chaos. Local residents acted swiftly, aiding in the rescue mission by pulling victims from the wreckage and transporting them to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care.
Baghpat District Magistrate Asmita Lal confirmed the casualty numbers, noting that more than 40 individuals have been injured. “Efforts are ongoing, and the injured have been moved swiftly to hospitals in Baraut town,” she stated. Eyewitness Rajan Jain recounted hearing a loud crash before watching horrified as people, including women and children, fell from the platform. He described immediate community action to rush the injured to medical facilities using available transport.
According to Baghpat Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijayvargiya, 25 people are confirmed injured, with four in critical condition. Among those injured are six police officers who were on-site during the incident. Community members have been instrumental in rescue efforts, working alongside emergency teams to clear debris and reach those still trapped.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grave concern over the tragedy. He has instructed officials to expedite relief efforts and ensure the injured receive adequate medical treatment, extending his wishes for a swift recovery to all affected. In light of the incident, the community has shown resilience, rallying together to support rescue operations and provide aid to the wounded as authorities continue their efforts to manage the situation.
