Heartfelt Outcry: Sonu Nigam’s Emotional Plea as Top Singers Miss Out on Padma Awards – Watch the Viral Video
On the eve of Republic Day 2025, the central government announced the list of recipients for the prestigious Padma Awards. A total of 139 individuals were recognized, with accolades including seven Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri awards. Among those honored in the music industry were Pankaj Udhas, Arijit Singh, and Sharda Sinha, with Udhas and Singh set to receive the Padma Shri and Sinha the Padma Bhushan.
In light of these announcements, renowned singer Sonu Nigam took to Instagram to express his disappointment over the exclusion of several notable artists from the list. Nigam highlighted the oversight of legendary and modern-day talents, questioning why some of the most inspiring figures in Indian music had not been acknowledged.
Nigam reflected on the immense influence of icons such as Mohammad Rafi and Kishore Kumar, noting that Rafi was only awarded posthumously, and Kumar hadn’t even received a Padma Shri. He emphasized how these figures have inspired singers globally.
Continuing his critique, Nigam lamented the absence of recognition for contemporary artists like Alka Yagnik, Shreya Ghoshal, and Sunidhi Chauhan. He pointed out Yagnik’s long and illustrious career, Ghoshal’s consistent brilliance, and Chauhan’s inspiration to generations with her distinct voice. Despite their significant contributions to Indian music, they remain unrecognized by the prestigious awards.
Nigam’s video has since gone viral, resonating with the sentiments of many music enthusiasts who echo his call for broader recognition of deserving artists in India’s cultural honors.
