Heartwarming Tribute: Arunachal Minister’s Republic Day Celebration at Deepak Nabam Living Home Earns PM Modi’s Acclaim in ‘Mann ki Baat’
Arunachal Pradesh Health Minister Biyuram Wahge celebrated the 76th Republic Day with a meaningful visit to Deepak Nabam Living Home, a center dedicated to helping the mentally and physically challenged, the elderly, and the underprivileged. Accompanied by key officials, including DHS Dr. Riken Rina and DME Dr. Hage Ambing, Minister Wahge engaged with residents, highlighting the facility’s critical societal role and praising founder Deepak Nabam for his selfless work.
Deepak Nabam’s profoundly inspiring journey from a college dropout battling liver cirrhosis due to alcoholism to a community leader was recently acknowledged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in ‘Mann ki Baat’. Nabam’s transformation through discipline and determination led to the founding of the Deepak Nabam Living Home in 2005. Initially assisting just two mentally challenged individuals, it now supports over 300 residents facing mental health issues, physical disabilities, and substance abuse challenges.
Nabam’s venture started with a modest government grant, which he used to set up a bookstall in Itanagar. His dedication attracted families seeking care for vulnerable relatives, leading to the home’s expansion. PM Modi highlighted Nabam’s exemplary service, stating that his work has provided hope and transformation for many.
Operated with support from state-provided ambulances, the NGO ensures its residents receive regular medical care. Nabam, fueled by PM Modi’s recognition, envisions scaling up efforts to meet the increasing needs of the mentally ill and underprivileged in Arunachal Pradesh and the Northeast.
“This acknowledgment propels us to broaden our outreach,” Nabam stated, emphasizing the urgent need for continued attention to the growing population of mentally ill individuals in the region. Deepak Nabam Living Home epitomizes the profound impact of compassion and resilience, underscoring a commitment to supporting society’s most vulnerable members.
