Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur extended greetings to the people on the 76th Republic Day, which coincides with the 50th Statehood Day of Sikkim. He highlighted the state’s significant achievements in tourism, health, education, infrastructure, and governance, which reflect its progress over the past half-century. The Governor announced that Sikkim is planning year-long Golden Jubilee celebrations, culminating in a grand event on May 16, 2025, with the Prime Minister as the chief guest. He expressed confidence in Sikkim’s journey towards sustainable development and inclusive growth, supported by both the state and national governments.
Governor Mathur emphasized the state’s impressive advancements in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as reported by NITI Aayog, and highlighted the manufacturing sector’s contribution of 35.7% to the state’s GDP—the highest in India. He outlined key areas identified by the Sikkim government to further accelerate growth, in line with the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047. These include enhancing youth employability, establishing a healthcare and wellness hub, boosting agriculture and food processing, fostering tourism, and advancing infrastructure and social development.
The Governor noted Sikkim’s potential as a healthcare and wellness center, emphasizing the state’s strategies to revitalize rural economies through innovative practices. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to boost tourism by developing a diverse range of experiences and infrastructure projects, such as enhancing road connectivity through the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). Over the past five years, 183 roads and 51 bridges have been constructed, with more projects underway.
Concluding his message, the Governor reflected on Sikkim’s transformation from a small kingdom to a progressive state since its integration with India in 1975, underscoring its focus on empowering people and fostering sustainable development.
