CM Sangma Triumphantly Establishes Umpdem RCLP School Foundation in Eastern West Khasi Hills: A Landmark Moment for Education
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has laid the foundation stone for the Umpdem RCLP School in the Eastern West Khasi Hills District, marking a significant step towards enhancing educational infrastructure. During his visit, Sangma expressed pride as the first Chief Minister to visit the village, underscoring the importance of investing in education for future benefits. He emphasized the need for state leaders to prioritize education, and stated, “Every village is mine,” reflecting his commitment to equitable development across all regions. Sangma also acknowledged Mairang’s MDC, Sh. Batskhem Ryntathiang, for allocating ₹40 lakhs towards the school’s construction.
Earlier, Sangma inaugurated Hima Mawphlang’s new office building in Lumrynkew Mawiong, East Khasi Hills, deeming it a “historic” occasion. Despite its rich culture and nearly 1,000-year-old traditions, Hima Mawphlang had never had an office. This development is seen as a bolstering of cultural identity. Sangma assured that necessary funds will be allocated for infrastructure enhancements.
Moreover, the Chief Minister announced a ₹25 crore investment under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme to boost tourism by developing infrastructure in Mawphlang’s Sacred Grove, a popular tourist site. In education, plans to commence classes at the newly approved Mawphlang Science & Commercial College this year were disclosed, alongside a ₹1 lakh grant for Mawphlang Secondary School. Sangma also promised further support for musical instruments for Pynshailang Lyngdoh and encouraged preserving Hima Mawphlang’s rich heritage for the future.
These initiatives by CM Sangma reflect a commitment to holistic development, blending education, cultural preservation, and tourism, aiming to uplift the state’s economic and social fabric.
