Relief and Progress: Mizoram Truckers Joyfully End Strike as Government Begins Urgent Road Repairs
The indefinite strike by the Mizoram Truck Owners’ Association (MTOA) and the Mizoram Truck Drivers’ Association (MTDA) has been called off following the state government’s proactive steps to address road conditions along National Highway 306. The strike, initiated early Thursday morning, ended at 6:30 PM on Friday. MTOA General Secretary, Dina Tlau, informed that the decision to cease the protest was made after observing significant efforts by the government to repair roads, particularly the perilous section between Kawnpui and Khamrang in the Kolasib district, bordering Assam’s Cachar district. The repair works are reportedly ongoing with urgency, as deep potholes are being filled and problematic spots are being continuously worked on. Contractors are diligently executing the repairs, and the state’s Public Works Department has laid out a comprehensive plan to complete the repairs on the most severe sections by February 15. This development brings a crucial relief to truckers who had been protesting against the poor road conditions that posed safety risks and operational challenges.
