In a significant security operation in Agartala, Tripura Police detained a Bangladeshi national on Tuesday, January 21, discovering arms and ammunition in his possession. The suspect, identified as Shamaj Prio Chakma, was apprehended during a raid at the Milan Chakra area of the city. Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Sadar Sub-divisional Police Office conducted the operation, uncovering a 9MM pistol along with 25,000 Bangladeshi Taka and Rs 2 lakh in Indian currency, as well as two cartridges.
According to SDPO Deba Prasad Roy, the detained individual had been residing in the area as a tenant for the past six months. Authorities have registered two cases against him. Chakma is reportedly a resident of Khagrachari, Bangladesh, and the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about cross-border security and illegal arms trafficking in the region.
