Kanimozhi’s Bold Declaration: ‘Anti-People’ BJP Government’s Downfall Imminent
DMK Protests BJP’s Alleged Neglect of Tamil Nadu in Union Budget
Thoothukudi: In an assertive demonstration led by MP M.K. Kanimozhi, DMK cadres protested against the BJP-led Central government’s alleged neglect and partiality in the allocation of funds to States, particularly Tamil Nadu. The protest, held on Saturday, criticised the recent Union Budget as “anti-people” and “anti-Tamil.”
Addressing the gathering, Kanimozhi declared that the current government, which she accused of favoring corporate giants over the common man, would soon be replaced by one that prioritizes public welfare. She noted the budget appeared to cater primarily to Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, neglecting other States, including Tamil Nadu, and questioned the implementation of allocated funds to these States given the Central government’s track record.
Kanimozhi also condemned the Centre for its perceived indifference to Tamil Nadu’s needs, despite multiple visits by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and an assessment by the Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, of the flood-hit Thoothukudi district. She highlighted the lack of flood relief and pointed out that key projects like the second phase of Chennai Metro Rail remain unfunded.
Furthermore, Kanimozhi criticized the reduction in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme’s budget, noting that allocated funds from the previous budget had not been fully released. She contended that the government’s failure to address basic issues like education and health in Tamil Nadu was due to its unfair financial policies.
The demonstration also saw participation from Mayor Jegan Periyasamy and MLAs M.C. Shunmugaiah and G.V. Markandayan, underlining the collective anger and call for action against the central authorities.
