Mystery Deepens: Stolen Service Pistol of Lakhimpur ASI Still Missing After Eight Tense Days
Dibrugarh: A serious security lapse has emerged in the Lakhimpur district with the theft of a loaded service pistol belonging to Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sunanda Deka, which remains unrecovered eight days post-incident. The 9mm IOF semi-automatic pistol, stolen from Deka’s rented residence on January 11 while he was playing badminton outside, was fully loaded with 13 rounds. This alarming breach has prompted a thorough investigation, as confirmed by Lakhimpur Superintendent of Police, Hitesh Chandra Roy. An investigative team has been deployed to locate the missing firearm, though no leads have surfaced thus far. Following protocol, ASI Deka has been subjected to ‘Reserve Closed’ status—a disciplinary measure that suspends him from active duty, pending further assignment. This incident underscores potential security risks and violations of police protocols in the area, raising critical concerns about law enforcement practices.
