Shocking Betrayal: MNF Accuses ZPM Govt of Lacking Courage to Shelter Ethnic Mizos | Guwahati News
Aizawl: The opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) has criticized the current Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government led by Chief Minister Lalduhoma for allegedly lacking the resolve to offer refuge to ethnic Mizos fleeing persecution. Speaking at an MNF event, former Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia accused the state government of bowing to pressure from the central government, leading to the deportation of 28 refugees from the Bawm community. These individuals, ethnic Mizos originating from the Chittagong Hill Tracts in Bangladesh, reportedly sought safety in Mizoram only to be sent back forcibly. Tawnluia lamented the government’s inaction, describing it as submissive and unable to challenge the central authority. He highlighted a stark contrast between the current leadership and that of the previous administration headed by Zoramthanga, in terms of commitment to protecting ethnic Mizos who seek asylum in the state.
