Exclusive: CRISTINA SCABBIA Reveals the Inspiring Journey to Discover LACUNA COIL’s Dynamic New Guitarist, DANIELE SALOMONE!
In a recent interview with Full Metal Jackie’s radio show, LACUNA COIL’s vocalist Cristina Scabbia shed light on how Italian guitarist and producer Daniele Salomone became a part of the band. Salomone, who joined temporarily following the exit of long-time guitarist Diego Cavallotti, was chosen due to his familiarity with the group and his impressive guitar skills. Having previously assisted LACUNA COIL with recordings and equipment, Salomone was Scabbia’s first choice when a lineup change was needed. Despite his current role, Salomone has not been permanently added to the band; he continues to tour as a session musician to gauge if the lifestyle suits him.
Salomone debuted with LACUNA COIL on August 4, 2024, at Rockstadt Extreme Fest in Râșnov, Romania. His inclusion followed Cavallotti’s departure in June 2024. Cavallotti, who joined in 2016, clarified that his decision to leave was not due to dissatisfaction but was a personal choice. Notably, Cavallotti and Salomone had previously collaborated in the Italian metal band INVERNO, which released its debut album, “Stasis,” in December 2023.
LACUNA COIL is set to launch their new album, “Sleepless Empire,” on February 14, 2025, via Century Media Records. The inspiration for this album came from their sessions for “Comalies XX” in 2022. Recorded in northern Italy between Milano and Como, the album features guest appearances by Randy Blythe of LAMB OF GOD and Ash Costello of NEW YEARS DAY. The band also curated an oracle “game” with custom-made dice for the box set edition, adding a playful nod to their gaming interests.
