Empowering Moments: Women Shine as Kejriwal Files Nomination in Delhi
In a surprising move, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal announced on X that he would lead a “nomination padayatra” from the party office to Jamnagar House, the New Delhi district magistrate’s office, to file his nomination for the New Delhi Assembly constituency. Accompanied by women supporters from across Delhi, including his wife Sunita, the padyatra became a significant demonstration of strength. Women of all ages participated, dancing in the streets as vibrant drumbeats echoed and chants of “Phir aayenge Kejriwal” could be heard.
Before setting off, Kejriwal and his family visited Hanuman and Valmiki temples for prayers. Standing with his family, Kejriwal appealed to the public, especially women, to support AAP, emphasizing their poll promise, the Mahila Samman Yojana. He reiterated commitments to improve education, healthcare, and essential services like electricity and water, promising a financial benefit of Rs 2,100 for women not subject to income tax.
Kejriwal took the opportunity to criticize the BJP, accusing the party of lacking a clear vision for Delhi, no leadership, and failing to communicate its achievements. He claimed that the BJP focuses on criticizing him instead of outlining plans for Delhi’s future.
During the march, supporters like Usha Devi expressed trust in AAP’s past work, citing improvements from mohalla clinics to educational and healthcare advancements. Similarly, Jyoti, a security guard from South Delhi, highlighted feeling secure to leave her daughters alone due to AAP’s initiatives for women’s safety, including installing CCTV cameras and providing free rides for women.
The padyatra ended with cheers for Kejriwal, setting the stage for a heated electoral battle in Delhi, as AAP aims to retain its influence in the capital.
