Unprecedented Comfort: Railways to Operate Over 13,000 Trains for Devotees Flocking to Mahakumbh
Indian Railways has amplified its services during the ongoing Mahakumbh to accommodate the massive influx of devotees traveling to Prayagraj. To date, it has operated 137 special Kumbh trains in addition to 349 regular trains specifically for this event. Looking ahead, Indian Railways plans to run over 13,000 trains throughout the 46-day-long Mahakumbh for the convenience of pilgrims. This includes more than 10,000 regular trains and over 3,000 special trains.
To enhance connectivity, the Railways is running more than 500 trains on four distinct routes through a ring rail network linking Prayagraj. In a bid to bolster infrastructure, 17 new permanent Yatri Ashrayas have been established, increasing the total to 28, and enabling a holding capacity of over 110,000 people at railway stations.
Moreover, Indian Railways is prioritizing security during the Mahakumbh. A robust security apparatus has been put in place with the deployment of 5,900 personnel across key areas. In addition, 764 new CCTV cameras have been installed, and drones are being employed for surveillance, ensuring a safe and smooth experience for all attending the event.
This strategic move by Indian Railways reflects its commitment to facilitating safe and efficient travel for millions of devotees. The combination of increased train service, expanded facilities, and heightened security measures aims to ensure that pilgrims can fully participate in this sacred gathering without concern for travel logistics or safety.
