Tripura’s Ambitious Drive: Exciting Steps to Meet Soaring Fish Demand
In response to the escalating demand for fish in Tripura, Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das announced a series of strategic initiatives targeting increased fish production. Addressing a query from CPIM MLA Ramu Das during the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Minister Das revealed that the state’s current fish requirement is 117,287.46 metric tons, while production lags at 85,805.68 metric tons.
To bridge this deficit, the state government has introduced measures to bolster fish production. These efforts involve supporting fish farmers, self-help groups, and fishermen’s cooperative societies by advocating for scientific fish farming methodologies. This includes the excavation of new water bodies and the renovation of outdated ones to suit modern fish farming techniques. Furthermore, the government is distributing high-quality carp fry to enhance productivity.
This comprehensive approach highlights Tripura’s commitment to meeting its fish demand through sustainable and advanced aquaculture practices, ensuring the livelihoods of those dependent on this industry, while addressing the market needs efficiently.
