Tragic Incident: Heartfelt Appeal as Indian Death Toll in Russia Rises After Fatal Attack
India has urged Russia to release all Indian nationals recruited by the Russian military following the recent death of an Indian citizen in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. The deceased, identified as Binil TB from Thrissur, Kerala, becomes the tenth Indian casualty since the war began nearly three years ago. Another Indian, also from Kerala, was injured and is currently receiving medical treatment in Moscow.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, announced that the demand for the release of Indian nationals has been firmly communicated to Russian authorities in Moscow and their embassy in New Delhi. The call for discharge echoes a similar request made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow in July of the previous year.
Russia’s recruitment of foreign fighters, including a number of Indians, for its military operations in Ukraine has been a concerning issue amidst the conflict. Official figures indicate that nine Indians have previously died while serving in the Russian military, bringing the total death toll to ten with Binil’s demise.
The MEA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the swift discharge of Indians from Russian military engagements, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding its citizens abroad. India’s persistent diplomatic efforts highlight its dedication to protecting national interests and addressing the complex challenges posed by the ongoing war in Ukraine.
