Revitalize Tuirial Dam: Minister Highlights Urgent Need for Captivating Cruise Tourism | Guwahati News

Mizoram’s Transport Minister, Vanlalhlana, emphasized the need for upgrading the Tuirial Dam to enhance river cruise tourism and other uses. The dam, originally constructed to generate 40-megawatt hydro-electric power, has the potential to serve as a significant waterway for transporting goods and passengers, benefiting the surrounding population, according to a government statement. Speaking at the 2nd Inland Waterway Development Council meeting in Kaziranga, Vanlalhlana highlighted the possible transformation of the dam area into an ecotourism hub. He stressed the necessity of a detailed preliminary survey to evaluate the dam’s full potential and the feasibility of developmental projects. The minister asserted that Mizoram’s hilly terrain has historically posed challenges to smooth transportation and economic growth. However, he sees inland water transport as a sustainable and cost-effective means to overcome these challenges, despite only a few rivers in the state having notable potential.
