Manipur CM Applauds Bold Union Home Ministry’s New Border Pass Regulation: A Triumph for Security and Progress
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed gratitude to the Union Home Ministry for implementing a regulation that permits Myanmar residents within 10 km of the international border to temporarily enter Manipur using a “border pass” issued by Assam Rifles. Speaking to reporters, Singh hailed this as “a good beginning,” emphasizing the need to manage cross-border movement effectively. He highlighted previous neglect in monitoring entrances and exits, thanking the Union Home Minister and the Ministry of Home Affairs for the initiative. Singh also mentioned the involvement of state police, health officials, and DC office staff at the border, urging them to employ advanced technology to curb illegal immigration.
Addressing the recent suicide of a 21-year-old woman at Mekola relief camp, Singh revealed that an FIR has been lodged and the incident, believed to be due to personal issues, is under investigation.
Singh also announced plans for a world-class, fully computerized museum at Canchipur, with a budget of approximately Rs 40 crores. The museum aims to educate future generations on the history and complexities of Manipur, which Singh described as a personal priority.
Furthermore, Singh criticized the misuse of social media platforms for spreading misinformation and mockery, labeling the situation as “very unfortunate.” He assured that the state has taken decisive actions through its cybercrime units, including arrests and account blocks, and will continue to comply with the legal framework.
In summary, Singh’s remarks highlight significant steps in regulating border entry, handling social issues, promoting historical education, and maintaining digital integrity in Manipur.
