Varun Dhawan’s Heartfelt Struggle: Rajpal Yadav Unveils ‘His Desperate Attempts’ After Baby John Setback
Varun Dhawan’s ‘Baby John’ Struggles at Box Office: Rajpal Yadav Speaks Out
"Baby John," directed by Kalees and featuring Varun Dhawan in the lead role, struggled to make a significant impact at the box office, with earnings below Rs 50 crore against its Rs 180 crore budget. The film was released on December 25, 2024, and stars Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Jackie Shroff in pivotal roles. It follows Inspector Satya Verma, also known as Baby John, as he navigates a tumultuous life with his daughter and friend, Ram Sevak, while confronting dark secrets from his past.
Rajpal Yadav, who played the role of Ram Sevak, suggested that the film’s status as a remake of the Tamil hit "Theri" contributed to its underperformance. Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, Yadav expressed disappointment that viewers’ familiarity with the original diminished the film’s potential, describing it as possibly one of the most well-made films of his career, had it not been a remake.
Addressing concerns about Varun Dhawan’s emotional state following the film’s failure, Yadav praised Dhawan, highlighting his dedication and willingness to take creative risks. Describing him as a "sweet boy" and a "hardworking" actor, Yadav emphasized the importance of applauding Dhawan’s efforts.
Despite the film’s ambitious storyline involving revenge and personal turmoil, critics largely panned "Baby John," citing issues with its writing and pacing. A review from News18 Showsha noted the film’s lack of suspense and predictability, comparing its sluggish first half to Akshay Kumar’s "Rowdy Rathore."
The film’s disappointing performance at the box office reflects the challenges faced by remakes in capturing audiences, especially when competing against successful originals.
