Miraculous Rescue: Six Lives Saved from Perilous Siang River Island in Arunachal
Six individuals marooned on an island in the Siang River, Arunachal Pradesh, were successfully rescued on Wednesday, according to police reports. The group ended up stranded after venturing to the island in East Siang district to collect stink bugs. Their return journey was hindered by harsh weather conditions, explained Deputy Superintendent of Police Ayup Boko.
The stranded individuals were first reported to the Mebo police station around 8:30 p.m. Upon receiving the information, police initiated a rescue operation involving both police officers and members of the disaster response force. Despite their prompt assembly and arrival at the location by 10:30 p.m., the team faced difficulties due to heavy rain and darkness, forcing them to delay their rescue efforts until daylight.
The rescue mission resumed the next morning, successfully bringing all six individuals back to safety. Among those rescued were Opang Tamuk, aged 41, and five youths: Punchung Rai, Rajen Narzari, and Sompa Marpeche, all 19 years old; Santosh Chetry, aged 21; and Vijay Tamang, 17.
This incident underscores the challenges posed by unpredictable weather conditions in remote areas and highlights the quick response and coordination by local authorities in ensuring the safety of individuals caught in such situations.
