Chaos Unleashed: Franco-Swiss Airport Evacuated Amidst Arson Attacks Wreaking Havoc on French Rail Network
A Franco-Swiss airport was briefly evacuated on Friday due to security concerns, just hours after arson attacks disrupted the French rail network ahead of the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. EuroAirport, situated on the French-Swiss border near Basel, announced on its website that it had reopened and flight operations were gradually resuming. The Basel-Mulhouse airport had earlier stated that it was evacuated and closed for safety reasons.
Several French airports, including EuroAirport, experienced similar evacuations late last year due to a series of fake bomb threats. EuroAirport serviced eight million passengers in 2023.
The evacuation coincided with French authorities’ efforts to locate the individuals responsible for the arson attacks that severely disrupted the high-speed train network, affecting travel for hundreds of thousands of passengers. The Paris Olympics opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday evening.
