Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath Unveils PM Modi’s Inspiring Vision for Revolutionary Solar Energy Future
Agartala, January 6, 2025: Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for anticipating the depletion of traditional energy resources like coal and gas and initiating the PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. This scheme encourages the transition to solar energy for electricity generation, aiming not only to provide nearly cost-free electricity to the public but also to generate surplus power for revenue benefits.
Nath explained that under the scheme, individuals who install solar plants receive substantial government subsidies. For a one-kilowatt plant, a subsidy of Rs 33,000 is provided, increasing to Rs 66,000 for two kilowatts and Rs 85,000 for three kilowatts. While the installation costs for a one-kilowatt plant range between Rs 60,000 and Rs 65,000, banks offer loans at a 7% interest rate without needing security or collateral. Trained vendors are also available to assist with installations.
He shared a success story of a TSECL employee whose monthly electricity bill plummeted from Rs 2700 to Rs 12 after installing a solar plant. The scheme allows users to sell excess power back to the grid, facilitating dual benefits of reduced electricity bills and potential revenue from surplus energy.
Nath announced a camp for the PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana at the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) head office, with additional camps in Mohanpur, Jirania, and other areas. These initiatives aim to raise awareness and assist citizens in leveraging the scheme’s benefits. Nath envisions Tripura becoming the first state in the North Eastern Region to fully capitalize on the scheme, pushing towards an "Atmanirbhar Tripura" where people produce and sell their own electricity.
The event attracted participation from notable figures, including Power Department Secretary Abhishek Singh, TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu, and other officials, reflecting strong community and administrative support for this transformative energy initiative.
