Breaking: Assam Police’s Dramatic Bust Uncovers Rs 2 Crore Cough Syrup Haul in Cachar – A Stunning Victory for Northeast!
In a notable anti-narcotics operation, Assam Police seized 11,100 bottles of Codeine-based cough syrup valued at Rs 2 crore near Damcherra in Cachar district, as reported by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. This successful operation was conducted based on credible intelligence, showcasing the diligent efforts of the @CacharPolice. The Chief Minister took to social media to commend the police’s proactive approach in tackling drug trafficking in the region.
Highlighting the broader success of the state’s anti-narcotics initiatives, Sarma noted that in 2024 alone, Assam Police seized a staggering 183 kg of heroin and other drugs valued at Rs 682.44 crore. This adds to a consistent trend over recent years, with narcotics worth Rs 420.17 crore seized in 2021, followed by Rs 784.55 crore in 2022, and Rs 742.09 crore in 2023. Last year saw confiscations of 22,776 kg of ganja, 114 kg of opium, 33.07 lakh psychotropic tablets, 14 kg of morphine, and 2.30 lakh bottles of cough syrup.
In 2024, Assam Police arrested 5,059 individuals and registered 3,287 cases linked to narcotics, demonstrating the intensified crackdown on drug-related activities. Additionally, the overall crime rate in Assam has seen a significant decline, with registered cases dropping from 1,33,239 in 2021 to 49,966 in 2024. Per lakh population, crime rates plummeted from 379 in 2021 to 139.2 in 2024. Crimes against women and Scheduled Castes and Tribes also saw a noticeable reduction, underscoring the state’s enhanced focus on law enforcement and public safety.
